Remember that nice route description I did? Yeah well, the route has changed. Here is a handy little mappie-poo for everyone. zerone45 has nicely offered everyone who can squish in her car to meet up at her place for parking savings. I know we have a few people who are coming from out of town who might need a place to crash - if you let me know here - we can probably work something out. Plans, we can finalize them!
Krewe du Vieux Parade
Location: Marigny/French Quarter New OrleansDate: Saturday, February 7, 2009 Time: 6:30PM - ishTheme: Secret Until They Tell Us
OK - a bunch of people expressed interest in this a while back so I wanted to give everyone a heads up to allow planning time. The Krewe du Vieux parade is on Saturday February 7th (this is the first Saturday in February).
Please note: THIS IS AN ADULT PARADE! Really. I am not joking. One of the sub-krewes is the Mystic Krewe of Sperms. Do you see where this is going? OK then.
You can read up on the parade here: www.kreweduvieux.org
For the OCD peopleThe Route
The parade starts at the corner of Chartres and Elysian Fields to Franklin Ave, to Royal St going upriver (into the Quarter) to Conti, down Decatur, up Frenchman back to Royal, then down Elysian Fields to end up where it all started.

The Purebloods will be there. Maple Street Children's Book Shop, 7529 Maple St., New Orleans. See you there (I hope)!!!(Please someone come - if I'm all alone I'm going to bust out crying and wither away into the void. Is that really what you want on your head? I didn't think so. /guilt trip)
Big Two-Week Notice Post!
Here is a lot of bullet points with lots of information in them:
The address is again:
Maple Street Children's Bookshop7529 Maple StreetNew Orleans, LA 70118(504) 861-2105 – if you care to pre-order the bookDate/Time: December 6th 11am to 12:30pm
I did a drive-by this weekend. The shop is a converted cottage – so very small and cute. BUT, this also means – no parking lot, narrow street, and street parking. So bring good walking shoes and be prepared to walk a few blocks to the store. And if you could manage to carpool; you would be in even better shape.
If anyone needs additional information/directions/etc, comment on this post or email me at eliand504 at gmail dot com. Feel free to pimp this out amongst any communities/sites/resources that you have – or contact me and tell me who to talk to and I’ll take care of it myself. :D
After some polling and whatnot, we've come up with our first couple of events for hp_la in November. Technically, it's one weekend with two different things going on. You can chose to go to both, or do just one that might be more convenient for you. We're calling it Squee-Giving since it is the weekend before Thanksgiving. So here's the plans...♦ Saturday, November 22nd, 2008:Louisiana Renaissance Festival A handful of us went last year and we all had a great time! There were some people who didn't get to go last year and expressed interest in doing this again! It opens at 10:00AM and lasts all day until 5:00PM. It's at 46468 River Road in Hammond LA, 70401 and admission is $14.00 for adults and $8.00 for children. You can purchase and print tickets ahead of time online here. We will be meeting in Hammond that morning before the doors open! So let us know if you're interested in going and we'll make sure to keep an eye out for you, or vice versa!♦Sunday, November 23rd, 2008:Twilight I know that this doesn't really have anything to do with Harry Potter, but oh well! We will be seeing the movie at Rave Motion Pictures at 16040 Hatteras Ave. in Baton Rouge, LA 70816 right off of O'Neal Lane. We will be going to an early showing on Sunday so that those coming in from out of town have plenty of time to get back home before dark. It will be at 1:00PM and you can purchase your tickets online here. Now don't forget, if you purchase your tickets ahead of time online, bring the credit/debit card that you used so you can pick up your ticket(s) at the theater. If I missed anything or if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Hope to see you guys in a few weeks!
NOTE: Why Maple St and why in New Orleans? The big corporate stores always have corporate guidelines about what promotions they will allow, and all of the independent bookstores in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge who had any Potter Parties previously (say that 5 times fast) were contacted. Maple St was the store that responded!
NOTE: Anyone who has ideas for the dueling contest (and extra wands?) OR anything else that would be easy and cheap to do in a small space - PLEASE COMMENT. I will beg... it is not pretty - but I would do it.
I'm just doing my modly duties and following up elseinane's post with a poll! Everyone likes polls, right? =D
Out of the following options, which gatherings/chats would you be interested in being a part of?
If you chose General November Outings, please type which one(s) here!
OK Everyone! Time to dust off the old journal!!!
As we are now heading into the OMG TOO MUCH TO DO holiday season of Halloween/Thanksgiving/varied December celebrations/New Years/King Cake Day/Mardi Gras
(I am tired just typing all that out!), I thought maybe doing a big idea sort of post might get the ideas flowing. Plus, I'm a planner. Ya'll know that. I wear the big R of Ravenclaw.
From random chats/conversations/ESP messages, we have a few ideas:
· Wrock the Boat Block Party (Sun, Oct 26th) - New Orleans
· Halloween (Fri, Oct 31st - duh) - no idea what people have planned, but if someone has an idea - time to speak up! :D
· Election Day online chat? (Tues, Nov 4th) So completely off-topic I can't stand it. But if it is needed - there you go. We could do one for each party so that everyone can vent freely... or just do your own thing. No worries. :D
· General November outings - (Nov 2008) LA Ren Faire, Twilight movie release, the "OMG Why Does HP_LA have so many November B-day's!" outing, and anything else people can think of...
· Beedle the Bard Release Party (REVISED featuring a Wrock concert by The Purebloods!!!!) - (Sat. Dec 6th) - New Orleans
· Yule Get-Together (Dec 2008) to be determined?
· New Year's Eve? (Wed. Dec 31st) No idea - just throwing it out there.
· HP_LA King Cake party. (after Jan 6th, 2009) Never had one - but no reason not to
· Superbowl Avoidance Party (Sun, Feb 1, 2009) This is of course, assuming that the Saints will not make it into the Superbowl. Since we have 40+ years to support this theory, I think we are safe. :D
· HP_LA goes to Krewe Du Vieux parade - (date not known yet - sometime in Feb 2009). NOTE: THIS IS SO COMPLETELY NOT APPROVED FOR KIDS!
Speak now – or forever hold your peace. :D
